There’s a particular kind of joy that comes with outdoor events in spring. The air’s still got a little nip to it, sure, but when the sky goes that deep, uninterrupted blue and the sun starts doing its thing, nobody wants to be stuck indoors. Not us, and certainly not Ed and Nina – who picked quite possibly the most breathtaking outdoor wedding setting we’ve ever had the pleasure of cooking at.

Tucked away beside the gently bubbling Burnhope Burn in the charming village of Edmundbyer, The Burnside B&B felt like something out of a storybook. Rolling views of the North Pennines, birdsong in the background and that peaceful, tucked-away feeling you just can’t beat – it was the kind of place that does half the work for you when it comes to creating atmosphere.
Of course, the food had to live up to it.
Our team at Hog Roast Durham arrived bright and early, ready to get things underway. And while we like to think we’re pros under pressure, we did have one particularly watchful supervisor on-site: Frisco, the couple’s four-legged bridesmaid. She took her role very seriously – especially when it came to making sure her promised pig’s ears were safely accounted for. No detail escaped her notice.
Once everything was ready and the celebrations were in full swing, it was time to let the food do the talking.
The hog roast was the star of the show – and for good reason. Slow-cooked until perfectly tender, with that irresistible crispy crackling on top, Hog Roast Durham served it alongside sage and onion stuffing and a generous helping of applesauce. Guests piled everything into soft buns and wraps, creating the kind of sandwich that requires both hands and zero distractions.

On the side, Hog Roast Durham kept things fresh and colourful with tomato and mozzarella salad, a mixed leaf salad, creamy coleslaw and herby new potatoes that were crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle – exactly how they should be.
And it wasn’t just the meat-eaters who were well looked after. Our grilled vegetable kebabs, paired with flatbreads, dips and optional halloumi, made sure everyone had something just as satisfying to enjoy.
By the end of it all, the plates were empty, the guests were smiling and even Frisco seemed impressed.
Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a better day.
