Right in the centre of Durham, overlooking the river, you’ll come across Saints Bar – one of those venues that instantly feels like a good choice. It’s got that slightly industrial look, softened by warm lighting and a covered terrace that makes it just as inviting in the evening as it is during the day. In other words, a solid pick for a party.
Which is exactly what Maria had in mind.
Turning 50 felt like a big deal (as it should), so she wasn’t about to let the occasion pass quietly. With Saints Bar providing ample room for 100 guests, she was able to gather a proper crowd – friends, family, the lot – and make a real evening of it.
Naturally, once the guest list was sorted, the next big question on her mind was the food.
For that, Maria brought in Hog Roast Durham, with Chris and Kayleigh leading the setup. From the start, they knew this wasn’t just another booking. Milestone birthdays come with a bit of pressure, and getting the details right matters more than ever.
Maria wanted good honest food, done properly and our hog roast felt like the most natural choice – as it does for many of our customers. There’s something about it that draws people in – maybe it’s the

smell, maybe it’s the theatre of it, probably both. Either way, it had guests hovering nearby long before it was ready to serve.
And when Hog Roast Durham finally started carving, the guests didn’t hang about before getting stuck in.
The pork came out tender enough to pull apart without any effort, tucked into soft buns with a spoonful of applesauce and a good helping of stuffing. On the side, there were fresh salads and coleslaw –
the kind of extras people say they’ll just “have a bit of” before going back for more.
But it wasn’t just about the meat. Hog Roast Durham’s veggie options held their own, with grilled vegetable and halloumi kebabs doing the rounds, alongside BBQ pulled jackfruit that caught a few people by surprise (in a good way).
By the time the evening really got going, plates were being refilled, people were lingering by the serving table, and the whole place had that relaxed, happy buzz you hope for at a party like this.
All in all, a pretty perfect way to welcome 50.
